120. get into shape

I’m not usually one for gold, but every now and then the warm colors get to me. I found these Lucuix earrings on Lily and the Lady’s home sale. Designer Lucia Torres tries to make timeless designs, which works for me, with her combinations of leather and geometric shapes. Time to combine some purple and tangerine!

119. follow the red line

Oh, for the love of red. I’ve been there before, but honestly - not having red in your closet is just a downright shame. Just a little touch of red makes all the difference - clearly Nadine Wijnants got the message. I’m not saying everybody should own 365 pairs of earrings. But at least one pair like these does wonders…

118. stuck inbetween

Marian Sturkenboom’s earrings always intrigue me. You somehow have to touch them to appreciate them, which makes this photo unworthy of her design. The little pearl in the middle is pressed between some sort of membrane and the silver plate, unable to move. You don’t see the membrane in every angle, but you somehow can’t seem to stop feeling the surface. Fascinating…

117. If I could turn back time

Growing up between my mom’s earrings often meant going treasure hunting in her boudoir. The shelves full of goodies and her clip-on earrings kept me quiet for hours. As I find myself hunting her treasures once again for this blog, I come across the earrings I always took for granted - now seeing how beautiful they actually are. So pretty, Wouters & Hendrix…

116. prototypical

I’ve told you about my friend Patricia before. As a creative centipede she has been writing for several blogs, started her own webshop with her mom and yesterday I received her first piece of jewelry. She might say it’s ‘just a prototype’, but keep an eye on that young lady. And when she’s famous, I’ll be the one going ‘I told you so!’…

115. How mice

Some earrings tend to attract more attention than others. This pair by Ineke Otte is definitely a headturner. Okay, I guess not everyone would hang white mice from their ears. But then again, you might have figured out I’ll wear virtually anything with a good dose of humour. Well, as long as they don’t nibble my ears…

114. candy cane

These earrings always remind me of those typical candy canes you used to get as a kid. Somehow they got really pointy whilst eating them, and at some point I always jabbed my own tongue or palate while eating - kind of took the fun out of it. My mom found these earrings in a shop in Namen, Belgium. At least they’re less risky…

113. hey punk!

There are two sides to every story. You say clean silver earrings with a faux-fur detail, I say a reference to mohawks and punk. Ofcourse, I don’t have a clue what the designer (Atelier Elf? I’m not sure…) really wanted to say with these earrings, but then again, there’s no harm in creating your own stories…

112. kick it

You just have to do something with a name like Karin Nuñez de Fleurquin. Born in Peru, she came to study jewelry design in Antwerp and learned the ropes from Wouters & Hendrix before starting her own shop. She thrives on asymmetric designs, and frankly, so do I. I just love the playfulness of the little red heel versus the small ball. An eyecatcher in every way!

111. heads or tails?

Yesterday I found out my blog is nominated for the Weekend Knack Blog Awards. I must say, that’s exciting news. What started as a small project just to see how far I would get with these 365 days, is starting to take bigger proportions - which is quite encouraging. So, with a pretty please, if you like what you read, take some time and vote, I’m in the last category: niche blogs. And then we’ll see in two weeks: heads or tails?

PS: when in doubt, take a look at Ella & Louise in the fashion category and Discover The Light for travel inspiration!

110. for she's a jolly good fellow

It might surprise you, as these earrings are not the most exuberant of the bunch, but these silver dromedaries by Wouters & Hendrix are the absolute über-earrings to me. My mom bought them over twenty years ago, and I guess they are her ‘comfy pants’: the pair of earrings she changes into when she comes home after work. So for as long as I can remember, this has been my first association with earrings. As my mom is pretty much the inspiration for this blog, and the main supplier of earrings, there’s no better day for ‘the earrings of earrings’ to appear here. Happy birthday, mom!

109. I just can't get enough

Collecting is a funny thing. You’re always on the lookout for new stuff to add. That one special pair to top it all off, the one that you really needed to complete it all. But there’s no such thing as completion. Then again, that’s the fun part I guess. I wonder if it’s the same with stamp collectors…

108. to hang or not to hang

I’m not really a chandeliers person, but on my ears they’re welcome any time. There’s something festive about the chandelier-shape, I have several examples. But in my living room, I prefer a nice and clean cut lamp. So even in my own mind there’s no consensus. Oh well, de gustibus et coloribus…

107. on the radar

So, we’re half through April and it’s been a cold and rainy day. I forgot my umbrella last weekend at sea and my coat didn’t have a hood. I guess I don’t have to paint that picture. But then again, my new shoes showed up today. So yes, as a true woman I can say: it’s been a nice day.

106. leave it

Every now and then I roam little shops seeking for fun stuff to hang from my ears. These leaves I found in a little store in Leuven called Hexagoon. They remind me of elementary school. We used to bring leaves to school in autumn, dried them and punched similar holes between the veins -  nature’s stained glass.

105. definitely maybe

Blue and red, those are definitely my colors. Blue matches my eyes in all shades and textures, red is just the ‘pop’ any girl could use. Sometimes they work like magic together, just like these Moroccan earrings. None of the stones is perfect and the colors deviate, which makes them so authentic. Perfect match!

104. peas in a pod

I’ve been there before, but I absolutely adore these earrings by designer Elisa Lee. The way she combines the art of glassblowing with original designs is rather rare. I’m not a huge fan of pastels, but these green peas get me in the right mood. If only the weather would cooperate…

103. extremely loud and incredibly hilarious

There’s nothing quite as therapeutic as having dinner with the girls. Most of these girls I’ve known since high school, some even longer, but we somehow stuck together. Our conversations are at the very least incredibly loud and often nothing less than hilarious. Today Hannelore brought some earrings made by her aunt (remember her?) and I bought these new ones. Dinner and earrings, just my kind of friday night!

102. not all that glitters

It don’t always have to be big designer names here. My mom brought these fun earrings from a trip to southern Africa. They’re nothing more than a little piece from a food can and some stamped metal. After all, some happy colors are all I need…

101. make you feel my love

Without knowing, I must have put the standards quite high. I tend to think it’s easy buying me a present - that he’s always safe in buying me earrings. But then again, loving earrings as much as I do, is drawing the line high, he assumes. So I get it, he thinks it’s horribly hard to find me the perfect pair of earrings. Little does he know, that whatever he gives me, I feel like a princess wearing what he picked out for me.
